Home for the Holidays
Giving current and former youth in care a place to celebrate holidays with their FACS family.
Home for the Holidays events offer youth in care, as well as those transitioning to independent living, a chance to ‘come home’ to FACS and celebrate major holidays. These celebrations occur five times a year, timed around key holidays when families and friends traditionally gather: Family Day, Easter, Canada Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
The events foster a sense of belonging and connection, allowing youth to socialize with peers who share similar experiences and reconnect with agency staff they’ve known for years.
Youth who have spent time in foster care face unique challenges, making them more vulnerable to loneliness and depression. Despite these challenges, they show remarkable resilience and strength.
While they may not experience traditional family dynamics during holidays, Home for the Holidays events help youth maintain important connections and build strong support networks, offering love, care, and a sense of belonging.
At every event, the FACS team embraces the opportunity to serve youth a nourishing meal and prepare care packages of meals that they can take home. The atmosphere is filled with a feeling of home, as games are played, jokes are shared, and hugs are abundant.
Home for the Holidays are only made possible through the generous support of donors.
