A Home for Brighter Tomorrows: An urgently needed home for children with high needs
Imagine being ten years old, hearing the news that you’re being sent away from the familiar community you’ve always known. The reason? There’s no suitable place for you to stay in Niagara where you can get the necessary support…
FACS Niagara cares for children who cannot live with traditional foster families because they live with complex mental health and behavioural challenges that require additional services and support. The shortage of treatment beds in our region, especially for children with additional needs, poses a significant challenge. These are our most vulnerable children, yet there is no place for them to stay in Niagara. As a result, some are living as far as Ottawa and Windsor.
Bringing these kids home to Niagara will require $450,000 in community support.
We will redevelop an existing building in Welland into a sanctuary for ten kids with high needs where they can heal and grow in their home community, while continuing to attend their current school, enjoy regular visits with family, maintain connections with friends, and access the familiar services they rely on.
Our kids deserve the chance to thrive close to those who care about them.
