New Outlooks & Beginnings:
Nurturing Youth Towards Independence and Personal Success
Youth raised in care face unique challenges that can increase their risk of experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, unemployment, early parenthood, involvement with the criminal justice system, and mental illness.
However, these challenges don’t define their future. The youth in the care of FACS Niagara are determined to create a new narrative for themselves and their families—one rooted in stability, safety, and security. They are resilient, compassionate, and capable individuals, ready to thrive with the right support.
New Outlooks and Beginnings (NOB) is a preparation for independence program for youth in foster care between 15-23 years of age.
The program supports over 100 youth annually, helping those preparing to live on their own or who have recently begun living independently and need additional support. NOB provides opportunities for youth to learn and practice the skills and attitudes essential for independent living. It focuses on building responsibility and self-confidence in managing daily tasks, while educating youth on the realities of living independently, including financial responsibilities and household management.
