After more than a year into the COVID-19 pandemic, children and youth supported by FACS Niagara need something to smile about!
That’s why we want to give them “Summer Smiles” this summer!
With health precautions easing, we are hoping to help send at least 340 children and youth to week-long, YMCA day camps in the Niagara Peninsula. And, we hope to help provide 200 “Summer Smiles at Home” activity kits and access for 140 kids to attend virtual camps.
But, we can’t do it without your donation.
For children and youth who have been cooped up inside and trying to learn on a computer screen, these outdoor summer camp opportunities can’t come soon enough! Knowing they might be able to go to camp and having something “normal” to look forward to can really help their mental health and wellbeing.
Summer Smiles camps can become invaluable experiences that children and youth remember forever. Camps allow children and youth to learn new things – about nature and the environment, about our world and about themselves. Camps give them a chance to develop social skills and leadership abilities, to try a new sport, and to boost their self-confidence. More importantly, camps give them a chance to just be themselves.
With your Summer Smiles gift this year, we hope to give 340 children and youth the most amazing summer experience that we can!
We estimate that it will cost an average of $250 for a child to attend a COVID-safe day camp for a week. And, we anticipate that the “Summer Smile at Home” activity baskets and the virtual camps will cost $100 each for children and youth.
Thanks to some generous sponsors and early donors we are more than half-way to our goal!
We appreciate the generous support of the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaigns in St. Catharines & Thorold, the Sleep Cheap Charities Reap fundraiser in Niagara Falls, the Fort Erie Omettes Club, the Larocque Group, Richard & Anne Kemp and the Kemp Financial Group, and Kim Robinson with Re/Max Welland Realty for their “Summer Smiles” gifts!
