Just when children and youth supported by FACS Niagara most need summer camp experiences, there won’t be any overnight camps and there may not be any day camps this July or August either.
That’s why we developed “Summer Smiles At Home!”
“Summer Smiles at Home” means we will work together with Foster Parents, Kin and families in the extended care of FACS Niagara to try to emulate the Summer Smiles experience.
For some children, “Summer Smiles at Home” might mean a tricycle, a scooter or a bike and a helmet so they can tool around the driveway and neighbourhood.
For others, it might mean a play tent and a sleeping bag for basement or backyard camping.
Others will hope for sporting equipment – like for soccer, baseball, volleyball, basketball, and badminton – so they can perfect their skills. Others would like gear for side yard games – like kan jam, cornhole toss, or croquet – so the whole family can join in.
For younger children, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, a small sandbox and pails, paints, crayons and colouring books, or a toy sprinkler will keep them active and occupied for days.
Most of the more than 800 families served by FACS Niagara don’t have access to these types of outdoor toys, crafts, or sporting goods. Your donation now can give kids and youth these items so they can enjoy active fun and an improved home environment.
What if the Government and Niagara Public Health gives approval for day camps this year? Then, we will try to give as many children and teens as possible a safe, day-camp experience. Since we won’t know if that’s possible until later this summer, we are proceeding with our “Summer Smiles at Home” plan now.
But we need your help.
With your support this year, we hope to give 456 children and youth the most amazing summer experience that we can!
We estimate that it will cost an average of $200 per “at home” camper.
Will you please make a donation today to help sponsor vulnerable children and youth this summer?
